So you might ask yourself, what is the point of journalism studies when everybody can be a journalist? What am i doing here, in school? I could be making money as we speak.
True, but these days so called ‘journalists’ are trained to be as fast as possible, and i don’t like haste. As a journalist it is our job to manage the abondance of information, taking our time to separate what is truly worth telling. Social media has the power to change journalism, and yes it already did, so we have to be humble. It’s not us journalists against them, social media voices, we have to work together to inform the world, our city, our block, our street, our friends.
Don’t chase an easy scoop, it will drive you crazy knowing you can never beat the speed of social media networks. It’s a case of David vs. Goliath.
Use this force, it’s too big to fight it.
